Indian Insurance Industry:
In Indian Insurance industry, there were only two major State Insurers in the year 2000:
- Life Insurers: Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC)
- General Insurers: General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC)
GIC had four subsidary companies. They are:
- The Oriental Insurance Company Limited
- The New India Assurance Company Limited
- National Insurance Company Limited
- United India Insurance Company Limited.
After the Privitization of Insurance Industry several companies entered the Insurance Industry. They are:

- Max New York Life Insurance Co. Ltd.
- ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Ltd.
